JEE PYQ: Area Under Curves Question 11

Question 11 - 2020 (02 Sep Shift 1)

Area (in sq. units) of the region outside $\frac{|x|}{2} + \frac{|y|}{3} = 1$ and inside the ellipse $\frac{x^2}{4} + \frac{y^2}{9} = 1$ is:

(1) $6(\pi - 2)$

(2) $3(\pi - 2)$

(3) $3(4 - \pi)$

(4) $6(4 - \pi)$

Show Answer

Answer: (1) $6(\pi - 2)$

Solution

Area of ellipse $= 6\pi$. Area of rhombus $= 4 \times \frac{1}{2} \times 2 \times 3 = 12$. Required $= 6\pi - 12 = 6(\pi - 2)$.
