JEE PYQ: Mathematical Reasoning Question 39

Question 39 - 2019 (11 Jan Shift 1)

If $q$ is false and $p \wedge q \leftrightarrow r$ is true, then which one of the following statements is a tautology?

(1) $(p \vee r) \to (p \wedge r)$

(2) $(p \wedge r) \to (p \vee r)$

(3) $p \wedge r$

(4) $p \vee r$

Type: MCQ

Show Answer

Answer: (2)

Solution

$q$ is false and $(p \wedge q) \leftrightarrow r$ is true. As $(p \wedge q)$ is false, hence $r$ is false. $(p \wedge r) \to (p \vee r)$: since $(p \wedge r)$ is false, $F \to$ anything is T. Hence it is a tautology.
