Let $\sqrt{x} = a$
$|a - 2| + a(a - 4) + 2 = 0$
When $\sqrt{x} = 1 \Rightarrow x = 1$
When $\sqrt{x} = 3 \Rightarrow x = 9$
Hence, the required sum of solutions of the equation $= 10$
