JEE PYQ: Statistics Question 32

Question 32 - 2019 (10 Jan Shift 1)

The mean of five observations is 5 and their variance is 9.20. If three of the given five observations are 1, 3 and 8, then a ratio of other two observations is:

(1) $10 : 3$ (2) $4 : 9$ (3) $5 : 8$ (4) $6 : 7$

Show Answer

Answer: (2) $4 : 9$

Solution

$x_4+x_5=13$, $x_4 x_5=36$. So $x_4, x_5$ are 4 and 9. Ratio $= 4:9$.
