JEE PYQ: Capacitance Question 37

Question 37 - 2019 (11 Jan Shift 1)

In the figure shown below, the charge on the left plate of the 10 $\mu$F capacitor is $-30\mu$C. The charge on the right plate of the 6$\mu$F capacitor is:

(Circuit: 10 $\mu$F, 6 $\mu$F, 4 $\mu$F, 2 $\mu$F in series)

(1) $-12,\mu$C

(2) $-18,\mu$C

(3) $+12,\mu$C

(4) $+18,\mu$C

Show Answer

Answer: (4)

Solution

6$\mu$F and 4$\mu$F are in parallel. Using charge conservation: Charge on 6$\mu$F capacitor $= \frac{6}{6+4} \times 30 = 18,\mu$C. Since charge is asked on right plate: $+18,\mu$C.
