JEE PYQ: Current Electricity Question 26

Question 26 - 2020 (06 Sep 2020 Shift 2)

In the figure shown, the current in the 10 V battery is close to:

(1) 0.71 A from positive to negative terminal

(2) 0.42 A from positive to negative terminal

(3) 0.21 A from positive to negative terminal

(4) 0.36 A from negative to positive terminal

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

Using Kirchhoff’s laws on loops ABCD and BEFC: $-5i_2 - 10(i_1 + i_2) - 2i_2 + 20 = 0$ and $-10 + 4i_1 + 10(i_1 + i_2) = 0$. Solving: $i_1 = -\frac{30}{138} \approx -0.217$ A. The negative sign means current flows from positive to negative terminal.
