JEE PYQ: Current Electricity Question 29

Question 29 - 2020 (07 Jan 2020 Shift 2)

In the figure, potential difference between A and B is:

[Circuit with $10,\text{k}\Omega$ resistors, diode, and 30 V source]

(1) 10 V

(2) 5 V

(3) 15 V

(4) zero

Show Answer

Answer: (1)

Solution

The circuit has two $10,\text{k}\Omega$ resistances in parallel combination to $5,\text{k}\Omega$. Diode is in forward bias, behaving as conducting wire. $V_A - V_B = \frac{30}{5+10} \times 5 = 10$ V.
