JEE PYQ: Electromagnetic Induction Question 18

Question 18 - 2019 (09 Apr Shift 2)

Two coils ‘P’ and ‘Q’ are separated by some distance. When a current of 3 A flows through coil ‘P’, a magnetic flux of $10^{-3}$ Wb passes through ‘Q’. No current is passed through ‘Q’. When no current passes through ‘P’ and a current of 2 A passes through ‘Q’, the flux through ‘P’ is:

(1) $6.67 \times 10^{-4}$ Wb

(2) $3.67 \times 10^{-3}$ Wb

(3) $6.67 \times 10^{-3}$ Wb

(4) $3.67 \times 10^{-4}$ Wb

Show Answer

Answer: (1)

Solution

Mutual inductance: $Q_{\text{coil}} = (NQ) \propto i$. So $\frac{Q_1}{Q_2} = \frac{I_1}{I_2} = \frac{3}{2}$. Therefore $Q_2 = \frac{2}{3}Q_1 = \frac{2}{3} \times 10^{-3} = 6.67 \times 10^{-4}$ Wb.
