JEE PYQ: Electrostatics Question 6

Question 6 - 2021 (24 Feb Shift 2)

A point charge of $+12;\mu$C is at a distance 6 cm vertically above the centre of a square of side 12 cm as shown in figure. The magnitude of the electric flux through the square will be ______ $\times 10^5$ Nm$^2$/C.

Show Answer

Answer: 226

Solution

Using Gauss’s law, the square is a face of a cube of side 12 cm with the charge at the centre. Flux through one face $= \frac{Q}{6\varepsilon_0} = \frac{12 \times 10^{-6}}{6 \times 8.85 \times 10^{-12}} = 2 \times 4\pi \times 9 \times 10^9 \times 10^{-6} = 226 \times 10^3$ Nm$^2$/C $= 226 \times 10^3$. So the answer is $226$.
