JEE PYQ: Mathematics In Physics Question 7

Question 7 - 2021 (25 Feb Shift 2)

The percentage increase in the speed of transverse waves produced in a stretched string if the tension is increased by 4% will be _____ %.

Show Answer

Answer: (2)

Solution

Speed of transverse wave is $V = \sqrt{\frac{T}{\mu}}$ $\frac{dv}{v} = \frac{1}{2}\frac{dT}{T} - \frac{1}{2}\frac{d\mu}{\mu}$ $\frac{dv}{v} = \frac{1}{2}\frac{dT}{T}$ $= \frac{1}{2} \times 4$ $\frac{dv}{v} = 2%$
