JEE PYQ: Ray Optics Question 34

Question 34 - 2019 (08 Apr Shift 1)

An upright object is placed at a distance of 40 cm in front of a convergent lens of focal length 20 cm. A convergent mirror of focal length 10 cm is placed at a distance of 60 cm on the other side of the lens. The final image will be:

(1) coinciding with object, enlarged, inverted and real

(2) coinciding with object, same size, erect, real

(3) coinciding with object, same size, inverted, vertical

(4) coinciding with object, same size, inverted real

Show Answer

Answer: (4)

Solution

$v_1 = \frac{40 \times 20}{(40 - 20)} = 40$ cm $u_1 = 60 - 40 = 20$ cm $\therefore v_2 = \frac{20 \times 10}{(20 - 10)} = 20$ cm $\therefore$ Image traces back to object itself as image formed by lens is centre of curvature of mirror.
