The value of power dissipated across the zener diode ($V_z = 15$ V) connected in the circuit as shown in the figure is $x \times 10^{-1}$ watt. The value of $x$, to the nearest integer, is ______.

Solution
Voltage across $R_s = 22 - 15 = 7$ V. Current through $R_s$: $I = 7/35 = 1/5$ A. Current through $90\ \Omega$: $I_2 = 15/90 = 1/6$ A. Current through zener $= 1/5 - 1/6 = 1/30$ A. Power $= 15 \times 1/30 = 0.5$ watt $= 5 \times 10^{-1}$ watt.
