JEE PYQ: Semiconductors Question 21

Question 21 - 2020 (05 Sep 2020 Shift 2)

Two Zener diodes ($A$ and $B$) having breakdown voltages of 6 V and 4 V respectively, are connected as shown. The output voltage $V_0$ variation with input voltage linearly increasing with time is given by: ($V_{input} = 0$ V at $t = 0$)

(1) Graph 1

(2) Graph 2

(3) Graph 3

(4) Graph 4

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

Till 4 V, $V_0 = V_i$. Between 4–6 V, 4 V zener breaks down, output shows step behavior. Above 6 V both zeners conduct. Graph (3) matches.
