JEE PYQ: Thermodynamics Question 3

Question 3 - 2021 (17 Mar Shift 2)

Which one is the correct option for the two different thermodynamic processes?

(A) P-V diagram: P on y-axis, V on x-axis — adiabatic curve steeper, isothermal curve less steep.

(B) P-T diagram: P on y-axis, T on x-axis — isothermal is vertical line, adiabatic curves away.

(C) V-T diagram: V on y-axis, T on x-axis — isothermal is horizontal line, adiabatic curve below it.

(D) P-V diagram: P on y-axis, V on x-axis — isothermal curve above, adiabatic curve below.

(1) (C) and (A)

(2) (C) and (D)

(3) (A) only

(4) (B) and (C)

Show Answer

Answer: (2)

Solution

Option (a) is wrong; since in adiabatic process $V \neq$ constant. Option (b) is wrong, since in isothermal process $T =$ constant. Option (c) and (d) match isothermal and adiabatic formulae: constant and $\frac{T^\gamma}{P^{\gamma-1}} =$ constant.
