Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: 11.(a)

Solution:

(a) IUPAC name of sodium nitroprusside $Na_2[Fe(CN)_5 NO]$ is sodium pentacyanonitrosoyl ferrate (III) because in it NO is neutral ligand. Hence

$2 \times$ O.N. of $Na+$ O.N. of $Fe+5 \times$ O.N. of CN

$\hspace{40mm} 1 \times$ O.N. of $NO=0$

$2 \times(+1)+$ O.N. of Fe $+5 \times(-1)+1 \times 0=0$

O.N. of $Fe=5-2=+3$, Hence, ferrate (III)
