Equilibrium Ques 16

16. Which one of the following conditions will favour maximum formation of the product in the reaction,

[2018]

$A_2(g)+B_2(g) \rightleftharpoons X_2(g) \Delta_r H=-X kJ:$

(a) Low temperature and high pressure

(b) Low temperature and low pressure

(c) High temperature and low pressure

(d) High temperature and high pressure

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: 16.(a)

Solution:

  1. (a) $A_2(g)+B_2(g) \rightleftharpoons X_2(g) ; \Delta H=-X kJ$

On increasing pressure equilibrium shifts in a direction where number of moles decreases i.e. forward direction.

On decreasing temperature, equilibrium shifts in exothermic direction i.e., forward direction.

So, high pressure and low temperature favours maximum formation of product.
