Hydrocarbons Ques 30

30. Correct order of stability is :

(a) cis -2-butene $>$ 1-butene $>$ trans -2-butene

(b) trans-2-butene $>$ cis-2-butene $>$ 1-butene

(c) 1-butene $>$ cis-2-butene $>$ trans-2-butene

(d) cis-2-butene $>$ trans-2-butene $>$ 1-butene

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (b)CC=CC

Due to more hyperconjugation in

$(6 \alpha-H$ atoms) than in 1-butene ( $2 \alpha-H$ atoms $)$, the former is more stable.

In trans-2-butene, the two methyl groups are far apart. Hence, it is most stable.
