Current Electricity Ques 19
A 6 volt battery is connected to the terminals of a three metre long wire of uniform thickness and resistance of $100 ohm$. The difference of potential between two points on the wire separated by a distance of $50 cm$ will be[2004]
(a) 1.5 volt
(b) 3 V
(c) 3 V
(d) 1 volt
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: 19.(d)
Solution:
(d) $R \propto \ell$
For $300\ \text{cm}$, $R=100\ \Omega$
For $50 cm, R^{\prime}=\frac{100}{300} \times 50=\frac{50}{3} \Omega$
$\therefore IR=6$
$\Rightarrow I R^{\prime}=\frac{6}{R} \times R^{\prime}=\frac{6}{100} \times \frac{50}{3}=1$ volt.
