Type of Hormone Description Examples
Peptide Hormones Composed of amino acids; bind to cell surface receptors and trigger intracellular events. Insulin, Growth Hormone
Steroid Hormones Derived from cholesterol; penetrate cell membranes and bind to intracellular receptors, affecting gene expression. Estrogen, Testosterone
Amine Hormones Derived from single amino acids; can work like peptide or steroid hormones depending on their nature. Thyroid Hormones, Adrenaline
