Previous Year NEET Question- Straight Lines

1. Find the equation of the straight line which passes through the point (1, 2) and whose intercept on the x-axis is twice that on the y-axis. (NEET 2018)

The equation of a straight line is given by:

y = mx + c

where m is the slope of the line and c is the y-intercept.

Since the line passes through the point (1, 2), we have:

2 = m(1) + b

or

c = 2 - m

The intercept on the x-axis is 2m. Since this is twice the intercept on the y-axis, we have:

2m = 2(2 - m)

or

m = 1

Substituting this value of m into the equation of the line, we get:

y = x + 2 - 1

or

y = x + 1

This is a test.
