The electron concentration in an n-type semiconductor is much higher than the hole concentration in a p-type semiconductor. An external field (electric) is applied across each of them. Compare the currents in them.
A) Current in n-type = Current in p-type
B) Current in p-type < Current in n-type
C) Current in $n$-type $<$ Current in $p$-type
D) No current will flow in p-type. current will only flow in n-type
Current in $n$-type $<$ Current in $p$-type
Sol:
Given, the electron concentration in $n$ type semiconductor is equal to the hole’s concentration in $p$-type semiconductor. When electric field is applied across the semiconductor, the electrons and holes will move in opposite directions. The mobility of $n$-type semiconductor is greater than mobility of $p$-type semiconductor. So, the current in the n-type semiconductor is not necessarily greater than the current in the p-type semiconductor.
