- $Ni / H _2$ can reduce $-C \equiv N$ into $-CH _2-NH _2\left(1^{\circ}\right.$-amine $)$ but cannot reduce an ester group $\left(-CO _2 Et\right)$ whereas DIBAL-H, di-isobutylaluminium hydride, $\left[\left(CH _3\right) _2 CH\right] _2 AlH$ reduces the ester group ( $-CO _2 Et$ ) into $-CHO$ (an aldehyde) and $C _2 H _5 OH$.
